Days living on the street were not easy. I would collect my friends change that they would have from their lunch money until it got old asking people for quarters, dimes and nickels. I started saving as much money as I could and went shopping for candy bars at the bulk store.
I would buy king size variety candy pack and take it in bags to my classmates in school. I could make $100 by lunch time. I was making about a 93% profit on the candy. I was a great salesman. I could convince anyone that they wanted candy. That they needed candy. Candy would improve your test scores, and land you the hot cheerleader. My candy would give you a trustworthy glow that would appeal to parents and teachers resulting in leaving school early and staying out later at night. I was making bank!
Seeing the money pile up gave me a severe hunger for money. I liked it all from pennies to hundreds and everything in between. I find that I'd rather save my money...well kind of. I started stealing. I've always stolen, even as a kid. I always got in trouble for it. I learned my lesson and stopped before high school.
When I was 16 though I became a rebel. I had already been living on my own for 3 years so it wasn't any rebellion towards my parents. I was angry at the world and I felt like I had nothing to lose. Kyle was already gone and I felt I had nothing.
I started shopping at stores like Bath and Body Work and would steal bottles and bottles of their products. I'd take them back to school, and sell them out of my locker. Sometimes I would go back to the stores, since the shifts had most likely changed and there was a new worker behind the counter, I could steal more. I was greedy. Even though I was working 3 jobs, I wanted more money to get me off the street and into a home.
I eventually earned enough money to rent a room. It was $800 a month and I lived on my favorite president's street, Lincoln Ave. My landlord was nuts, she would smoke pot and get drunk at our house (she didn't reside with me) and paint the walls. My refrigerator was silver, the trim on the walls was blue stripes with red cherries. I had a self portrait of my landlord in the hallway made out of plaster that was stuck to the wall and painted. She used the same plaster idea in my bathroom and made planets and hands that went along the shower wall. She was crazy.
I was never caught stealing, and I eventually stopped once I found this room for rent. I kept moving around once I became of age, living like a nomad. I just went with it. Lived where I could when I could, made money when an opportunity arose, and always stayed flexible.
Looking back now, I can't believe that was who I was. I'm a mommy now. My days don't consist of stealing bottles of lotion but rather watching Winnie the Pooh over and over again. I guess I can say I made it through some crazy shit. I suppose considering the conditions it could have been worse. I know I'm a good mommy so I guess I ended up better than I thought.
Since I thought I'd be 6 feet under by now.

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost
What is the book about?
Leila is cursed with a dark power after being electrocuted years ago. It scarred her body and made her unable to touch anyone with her right hand. She has a terrifying ability to channel electricity into objects and people, as well as touch people and see their past, present, and future. She can see peoples most horrific acts and it has jaded her. Now she has been resorted to working with the traveling circus with other non-humans who can handle touching her.
When vampires get wind that she has these powers they use her to find Vlad Tepesh through objects he has touched. When she finds him in his present state, something happens that has never happened before, he could see her, talk and communicate with her. Vlad needs her to find out which vampires had kidnapped her, and Leila needs Vlad to come and rescue her from the kidnappers.
Vlad Tepesh is the greatest vampire in history. His name may sound like trying to sound like Dracula, but what people don't usually know, is that he is the original Vlad, but the books and myths don't always tell the truth.
Together they conquer the evil vampires and find love they never thought they could find.
What did I think of the book?
It's Jeaniene Frost's book, so therefore I love it. Its as simple as that. She is so amazing! Her books always revolve around violence, and amazing love stories.
Leila is now one of my favorite series, she is so strong despite all that she has gone through in her past, with her mom dying and her inability to touch others with her right hand. She couldn't even drive a car due to the currents that travel off her body.
Vlad comes in and their first encounter is to save her from the perverted group of vampires. From the beginning he was winning her over and making Leila fall for him hard. Since he's vampire, they make the perfect couple, as he is able to handle her electric touch. He supports her differences in buying her lightning poles and feeding her his blood.
So next to Cat and Bones, my next favorite couple is now Leila and Vlad. Sorry Mencheres and Kira, you are now in third place. I love all Jeaniene Frost's characters. This was a great book, which isn't surprising since they're all so amazing!
Everyone should read Frost's books. Start from the beginning. You must read them in the order they were written in. I have them listed here if you want to check it out. Or go to the top of my page and click the Reading Order/Reviews page and it'll be listed under Jeaniene Frost.

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead
What is the book about?
After the attack on St. Vladimir's Academy has sent Rose on a mission to find Dimitri in Russia, leaving Lissa behind at school. Along the way she meets some interesting people that lead her to Dimitri's home town. Meeting Dimitri's family wasn't part of the plan, but now that she has gotten to know them she doesn't want to leave. They keep her tied to the Dimitri she once knew, and not the monster he has become. She is convinced to leave Russia by a mysterious man who has seemed to taken a special interest in her.
She travels a long way to finally find Dimitri. Now that she has found him she is having difficulty going through with the plan she set out to do. Somewhere inside him he is still the loving man that she remembers so clearly but something else about him is so cold.
Should he join his evil plans or kill him. Will she make the right decision or just put herself in more danger that might just end her life.
What did I think of the book?
Blood Promise is an amazingly sad book. Rose set out to kill Dimitri but now that she has travelled across the world to find him, she doesn't know if she can go through with it. Her delay in making the decision may just cost her her life now that she's being held captive by Dimitri and his friends.
You can't help but to feel so sympathetic for Rose as she struggles to find something still good inside of Dimitri. I was rooting for her through the whole book to make the right decision. Richelle Mead had me on edge as Rose is held captive because you just can't tell what fate Richelle has planned for her. This book was an extreme page turner that kept me up all night finishing this book. You won't be able to put it down. I guarantee it.

The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone by Emily Giffin
What is the book about?
The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone is a prequel to the book Something Borrowed. Something Borrowed is about Rachel, an attorney and her best friend Darcy. They have been friends forever which is clear by the many times they refer to stories from high school. The Diary of Darcy is showing her view of their friendship during high school.
What did I think of the book?
It's a must read book if you have read Something Borrowed. Since Something Borrowed is mainly from Rachel's version of their story. Emily Giffin is an amazing author and I especially enjoyed this short story about Darcy to add into the character from Something Borrowed.
I give this book

Going too Far by Jennifer Echols
What is the book about?
Meg and her boy toy Eric are double dating with a Tiffany and Brian. Well, it's not so much a double date as it is a bunch of teenagers drinking, smoking pot, and playing on train bridge. The same railroad tracks that John After has an obsession with, so of course now that is a cop he is sure to catch any one who goes near the bridge.
John After makes sure that these juvenile's get the proper punishment that Meg seems especially disappointed with since she'll be missing out on her spring break at the beach. She learns more than she may have wanted about John After but once the gates to him are open, she is quickly drawn in.
What did I think of the book?
Reckless and rebellious teenagers with a sexy cop. What's not to love? Meg is a daring blue haired girl who thinks she knows what she wants after high school. To get far far away from her parents diner, and nothing is going to stop her from getting out of town, not even some boy.
This was a cute book that reminded me a lot of myself at that age. Of course Meg learns a lot about herself and where her current rebellion will eventually lead her. Jennifer Echols is an awesome author and I plan on reading much more of her books!
I give this book
