The American Privateers is a fast paced book written in the third person, all taking place in the past during 1871 time period. I would categorize this as a historical romance, so there are many love and sex scenes. Bossert writes mainly from the perspective on the battle ships. This must have taken a lot of research in his part, since it seemed so accurate and intense. Everything I read, seemed to jump off th pages into a vivid picture, which made this a quick and fun read.

The main plot is about a young woman named Rebecca Stevens who has escaped America to go back to her homeland in London, with her father. They must do this quickly since her father will soon be caught as a spy. The book opens with a British battle ship attacking Rebecca's ship, she finds herself holding on for dear life as she floats in the deep seas.

Eventually she is fished out of the ocean, saved by Captain Jonathan Rogue and his men of the ship Freedom, an American ship. They set off to attack Captain Blake's ship, the Leopard, to avenge for their attack on her ship.

This is a fast paced read that I couldn't read fast enough. I was sucked into the book from chapter one, even though this isn't the typical book I find myself picking up and reading. There's romance, and action which make for a page turning experience that I recommend to all readers out there. I would rate this book a 5/5.
